“Chano” Amanguale on “Barney Miller.” He also gave a powerful performance in an episode of “All In The Family” playing a militant Jewish/Zionist activist (whom Archie agreed with). Was the “first” Lieutenant (boss) on “Miami Vice” before he decided to leave the show, as he was not a fan of the weather there. Would’ve been a different show in the long run with him instead of Edward James Olmos, as Sierra played his character more like a conventional police boss as opposed to Olmos’s minimalist style (the only case where Olmos did a better job). It’s too bad he didn’t stay on “Barney Miller” for the whole run.

I think I saw the All in the Family Ep, he died in a car bomb in the end? That seemed lame.

I remember they sent a new detective (Steve Landesberg) in Barney Miller and Captain Miller said “It’s about time, (Jack Soo) has been gone for almost a year” and then the new guy says no he was sent to replace Chano (who’d been gone for years)....that was funny.
