The Russian Grand Duke George Romanov has announced his engagement to his long term girlfriend Rebecca Bettarini after a Christmas proposal.
The 39-year-old son of Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna of Russia proposed to Italian lobbyist and writer Rebecca, 35, in December, after asking her parents for their blessing.
Rebecca, who is the daughter of Italian Ambassador Roberto Bettarini, went on to share the news on her own Instagram page, writing: 'A new chapter of our life book together is starting. As a writer I hope that the journey ahead will be full of love, suspense and adventure as the first part of our life book was.'

The Grand Duke title comes from the “pretender” to the throne. Of course, with all off the immediate royal family killed, we have to go with nephews and neieces, etc.

He looks like that at 39, I’d say give him another ten years, about thirty more pounds, and about twice as much grey, and he’ll look a great deal like Edward VII of Great Britain did. Especially if he had a goatee instead of a full beard.
It is ludicrous. In society George’ s mother is self proclaimed russian “ royalty”. She is a romanov but a very distant branch. If russia ever had a throne she would be the first to run to it. She has filled thiis man’ s( her kid) head with all this royalty nonsense. Ive been watching her the kid for years. Her mother & father were a real piece of work, now dead, of course. I had the strong impression that her, & the mother & father were grifters. Im pretty sure George is flying straight with a job.

I get it, but you need to know who they are in case the monarchy gets restored. Look at Spain. The Russians could do worse than having a constitutional monarchy.
If Russia decided to have a constitutional monarchy, Putin would have Henry Louis Gates do his genealogy and would discover that he is the closest living relative of Nicholas II.

He’s not. The Russians had very strict rules for the succession; depending on how you interpret them, he either is or isn’t the heir apparent, or there is no heir apparent. It’s kind of a mess. Anyway, at least some Russian monarchists think he would be tsar if there were a tsar.
They used to. And, Romanov was the name of the Royal Family of Russia. The last Tsar (Czar) was Nicholas who was a cousin of King George of England. There are photos of the two of them and the resemblance between them is uncanny. Nicholas's wife, Alexandra, was related to the British royal family by being an offshoot of Queen Victoria.
The entire family came to a bad end in a cold room, the whole family was gunned down and buried together in a pit. This was part of Lenin's purge on the road to taking power.
I don't know, and you are right, that whole family was murdered. But, I seem to remember a brother, Michael, who eventually emigrated to the U.S. But, this is a dim memory. Thought he had a car dealership somewhere in FL. This was a long time ago. His name was Michael Romanov.
Also, I think a lot of the royals of Russia got the hell out of dodge while they could and settled in different parts of Europe.
If they ever went back to having a Czar Putin would be sure to be Prime Minister and power behind the thrown. Symbolic only as a unifying figure only.

The mother ( George’ s) runs around North America % Europe how she is the Real Romanov” and the throne rightly belongs to her. Odious, to say the least
