Conservation police charged a Wonder Lake hunter, who is a repeat offender, after he broke numerous laws while killing a deer in McHenry County.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police said that CPO Todd Semenik concluded an investigation into the Wonder Lake hunter on January 12.

The man illegally harvested a 12-point buck whitetail deer approximately 42 minutes after legal shooting time and over bait on a large vacant tract of land, police said.

The hunter, who police did not publicly name, was issued a $10,000 civil penalty for the assessed value of the protected species.

He was charged with unlawful take of whitetail deer, deer hunting by the aid of bait, unlawfully hunting between ½ hour after sunset and ½ hour before sunrise, hunting on lands without permission of owner, unlawfully archery hunting within 100 yards of an inhabited dwelling, destroy real property of another while hunting, failure to tag deer immediately upon kill, no valid deer permit (permit only valid on property where permission to hunt has been obtained), and unlawful feeding/baiting of wildlife.

“This is the fourth time this hunter had been cited for similar wildlife and trespassing violations by IDNR Conservation Police,” officials said.

The most recent citation was for hunting with the aid of bait on a different property in early December. The hunter’s crossbow was seized as evidence and the conservation department will be seeking forfeiture.

Police said that Rodger Brandt, owner of Wayne’s Country Market in Marengo, waived all processing fees for their services and the deer meat will be donated to a needy family in the area.

I never will support this kind of tyranny.

This isn't tyranny, it's a flagrant abuse of our rights to hunt game. And trespassing on private property to break the law certainly isn't tyranny either and considering this is the fourth time he has been busted for violating hunting laws, they should throw the book at him.

You're going to be hard pressed to find any legitimate hunters on this website that will agree with you.........

Try re-reading it slowly. When you get to the fourth line, pause and take a deep breath.
The hunter, who police did not publicly name, was issued a $10,000 civil penalty for the assessed value of the protected species.

These are hunting violations and considered misdemeanors and not subject to trials..........

I'm curious, why do you consider all the charges against this poacher tyrannical considering his priors?

Based on your statements I find it doubtful you've hunted all your life............if at all.

Whitetail deer are a protected species in every state in the union.

The only species that are unprotected are things like rats, skunks, english starlings, opossums, etc.

All “Protected species” means is there are rules and regulations and licenses for taking them. Most protected animals have closed seasons part of the year.

When it comes to tresspassing I'm reminded of Chai Vang a Hmong with frequent tresspassing incidents over several years while hunting. The woods belong to everyone after all, that's how it was back home. His last trespass, he shot 8 family members and friends, killing six, on the land they owned but he wanted to hunt on. The only mass shooting involving hunters back to 1920.

I’m territorial enough that it’s the “hunting on someone else’s land without permission” part that pisses me off.

Wild animals are protected in all states and federally by legislation. Some species you can hunt 24/7/365, some you can’t hunt at all, some you can hunt in season with the proper license. Where you can hunt legally, not anywhere. They are protected. Different states may use different terminology, you may be thinking of threatened or state endangered species. Which are different state to state and federally. Deer are protected.

I agree, trespass is the worst in my opinion, and it’s a civil issue in most states in the absence of a restraining order. Other than that, he was illegally baiting and hunting after hours, though only 40 or so minutes.

Get's crazier. A couple years later a "white" hunter killed a Hmong hunting legally because Hmong people are bad, mean and "kill everything and that they go for anything that moves."

Poachers are scum.

I will agree with you......

With that being said, my dad's uncle Al lived alone out in the country in a teeny community in northern Michigan. According to dad he was a poacher but out of necessity. He was also the town drunk who was frequently thrown in jail for getting in fights.

Due to his reputation, I'm not sure he had much employment opportunities back then so he relied on game hunting to put food on the table. When he needed meat, he would go out at night and shine deer. I remember one day as a real young teenager my dad took me to see him and obviously phoned ahead because uncle Al was sober. He had a giant snapping turtle that he had caught in the swamp sitting in the bottom of a big barrel that he was going to butcher.......

When he died, they found him in a snow bank next to his mail box with a liquor bottle in his hand.........

Not to mention shooting when it is too dark to see and while other hunters are all exiting the woods.

His punishment is too lax, He should be shot with his own crossbow. (On public hunting land during daylight.
