If they convict him he would not longer have any funds for pension or the normal Presidential post office salaries and expenses.
It also prevents him from holding office.
He won’t be convicted.

The Constitution is silent as to a time limit for an impeachment. So, in theory, Jimmy Carter can be impeached tomorrow.
But why bother now that Trump is out of office? As others have noted, the Democrat goal is to bar Trump from running for federal office again.
It takes a simple majority vote in the House to impeach (already done in Trump’s case). Then it takes a 2/3 majority vote in the Senate to convict. If there is a conviction, the Senate votes again. By a simple majority vote the convicted person can be barred from holding federal office for life.
If that’s the case then it should be open season on Slick Willie and Barry Soetoro too.
Alcee Hastings was impeached and convicted for bribery and perjury by the Democrat-controlled U.S. House and Senate. The Senate did not preclude him from running for office, so he did and is now a state representative in southern Florida.
Trump would not be able to run for office only if the Senate says he can’t. Of course, it is all too likely that they would make that part of the sentencing.
Dems use terms as they want them defined,not as they are defined. They want impeachment to keep people, who would pose a threat to them, out of office.
They might as well impeach Caligula next—just to go officially on the record.

Does the Constitution address impeachment ?
The goal is to make him ineligible to hold any public office again.
Remember what the Scots did after the Anglos executed The Wallace.
I do not want to give the Democrats any ideas, but I am surprised they have not already impeached all Presidents that were slaveholders...
