I have a small kerosene heater; it’s only big enough to heat roughly half my house. This summer, I’m going to get the larger round one that heats 1000 sq. ft. That’ll take care of the house.
I know people don’t like the smell, but you get used to it. Can’t cook on it so I’d have to rig up something else. But for $200 for a heater that I can move where/when necessary vs. $2000+ for a permanent installation, I’ll take it!
And yes, I would have to buy the kerosene. But, I would have to buy wood for a wood stove as well.
That’s true, no matter what you get, you have to have the fuel for it. The only reason I lean towards a wood stove is that we have a few acres of wooded property. And don’t call me crazy, but I really love splitting and stacking wood. I treat it like a puzzle, my wood piles will last for years and years, even in the Sierras where they got five feet of snow pack on them.
