I have a request for fellow sci-fi buffs. Back in 2015, I checked a book out of the local library, which was apparently the first of a series, begun post-2010, in which an American guy witnesses a UFO crash on a lonely road, ends up amidst a firefight and saves a woman who proves to be the empress of an interstellar empire. Of course, they fall in love and he joins her in space and has to try to protest her as a revolution breaks out.
I liked the book a lot, but couldn't find subsequent issues listed. It looked like the author had shifted to electronic publishing only from that point. I wasn't willing to start doing e-books at that point, so I let it drop.
I'm now looking for something new to read, but have been unable to find the book/series in question. Unfortunately, I can't remember the author or title (I'm getting older, ya know). I have also moved, so I can't go back to the library to see if I can find the one I checked out. I think the author's last name started with an M.
Anyway, if one of my fellow freepers could help me, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Paper or Plastic? by Mackey Chandler? It is a similar story to that. He also does the April Series which is well done but is mostly on Kindle.
I once read Obama’s biography. Does that count?
No, that’s classed as abnormal psychology, not science fiction
The plot description is similar to a classic science fiction novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, A Princess of Mars.
I have quite a few by both of them on my bookshelves.
I don’t know, but I regret searching female alien and earth man romance novels ... $*(#&@& of it is erotica.
I thought it was classified as True Crime.
I read that when I was in junior high and they had one of those scared straight prisoner visits. The guy saw my book and grabbed it showing the class saying there’s rape and horrible things in there and I was going to end up in prison like him reading those books.
Agreed, by far the best. Second trilogy much slower, especially the middle one. New/last 4 I’m still slogging through.
Yup. Thomas never really recovers from his very first actions in the land. What the guy obviously missed was that Thomas was horrified by his actions and tried desperately to repent of them.
Thanks for the list. Some I’ve read, some should be on the list that are missing...BUT. Most importantly new ones to explore!
Probably not.
This is the science fiction genre, not fantasy.
I’ve been away from my desk. I’ve read the Apocalypse Troll. Great book. Unfortunately, not a series.
I’ve actually got all 11 books in that series. In paperback of course.
Good Idea, thanks.
I like Ringo and Weber too
Besides a rip off of Burroughs perhaps search for pulp science fiction. That’s what your describing

As long as this thread is up I was just trying to remember which sci-fi book I read long ago. The population was hooked on soma.
