Clear skies and abnormally warm weather in January brought several people to the Big Sur coastline
Clear skies and abnormally warm weather in January brought several people to the Big Sur coastline, but with so many people out and about the chance for social distancing starts to become difficult.
Scenic lookouts like the one over at Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park attract hundreds of tourists to witness Big Sur’s beautiful vistas. However, the path to get there is a tight squeeze. Although it makes some visitors slightly uncomfortable, like Los Angeles resident Max Taylor, he said it’s worth it for his mental health.
“I’ve been inside most of the time with my family. I haven’t been getting that much sunshine or nature, so it’s nice to get up here,” Taylor said.
California State Parks said they’ve witnessed record breaking visitors to the coastline, explaining most people are from outside Monterey County.
“You’re not going to find a Big Sur local taking a selfie at McWay Falls or Bixby Bridge,” said Marcos Ortega, Big Sur Sector Superintendent for California State Parks. “What you’re going to see, and with a lot of these areas, are people coming out. A lot of it is non-local traffic.”
Traffic filled up multiple turnouts along Highway 1 Sunday. Ortega explained this high volume of visitors is likely due to the coronavirus.
“I think obviously coupled with people being cooped up from the pandemic, they’re pushing to go outside. (It’s) the combination of the holiday weekend and weather,” said Ortega.
While keeping people safe through masks and social distancing is a top priority, Ortega said preventing further spread of the virus relies on everyone following the rules.
“I feel like we’re doing all the measures we can wearing our masks, keeping distance, we have our sanitizers with us and stuff like that,” said Bay Area resident, Sandra Sanchez. “Being out and about with the fresh air, I think that helps a lot.”
“It seems like people are pretty respectful of one another staying off to the side when people are passing and whatnot,” said Jack O’Halloran, who is visiting the Central Coast from Colorado.
With masks of course. 😷🙌
Warm January weather in Mexifornia is not abnormal. It’s normal.
I was at Fern Canyon today(Humboldt county) and the amount of people wearing masks in this out of the way gem of a state park was amazing. Maybe 95% were wearing masks in the great outdoors.

Cue the mass hysteria over ‘man-caused climate change’ now that biden is about to assume his stolen position
I won’t use hand sanitizer. It’s very unhealthy.
Great
Now I want a hamburger at Nepenthe...
I stopped by there on the 1st, but didn’t eat.
Yup. You’re 100% correct. The chemicals in hand sanitizer don’t discriminate against bacteria and viruses and droplets good or bad.
Soon the organism evolves to protect itself and a kind of ‘’arms race’’ between we humans and ‘’them’’ ramps up.
#2. No bathing suits, just masks!! Gives new meaning to “hang ten” and “well hung” surfing.
Was the coastline named Big Sur in honor of John Wayne?
Headline says thousands and the first sentence says several.
I wish Rock Point Restaurant would reopen.

Really great place to visit on the weekends back in 1967-68 when the food was good and the prices low. No traffic, no crowds, few people on the beaches below (after the hike down).
Now, not so much.
Very cool. The Bixby Bridge is my favorite.
See? The conditioning is working. These fools would wear their face diapers on Mars. No common sense and no self awareness at how utterly foolish they make themselves look. Automatons.
It’s bad. I have people absolutely fearful and they scatter to put on their masks or they walk 100 yards away( at the beach)AND put on their masks. I have been warning them in a loud voice since May,
“Leper, unclean, UNCLEAN!”
They laugh but they don’t take off their masks.
I’m in Ventura. The beaches were full yesterday......and I didn’t see any masks anywhere. 😂
I think we have more hippies and commies up here?
