On writing talents...’1984’ is mostly crap once you wrap up the first 70-odd percent of the book. The last couple of chapters in the book....resembling some Brit romance story gone sour, was just wasted story-telling.

I presume that is the totality of your high school sophomore paper on the book?

I imagine you have the same low opinion of the Bible’s writing.
ITMS - It’s the message, stupid! You’re letting the trivial dominate the important.

I strongly disagree. The point is made that mere natural human love is not enough to resist an all-out assault using pain and fear. Orwell was an atheist, as well as Winston, but he was an honest enough writer to see that natural forces enough, even a strong human love/desire is not a high enough ideal to resist Ingsoc. The last 30% (including his sinecure, and display to the folks of Airstrip One) illustrates the totality of his defeat. In the end, he loved Big Brother.
