House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent instructions to rank and file Democrats Monday to resist Republican initiatives, including the upcoming bill to reauthorize the nation’s agriculture and food stamp programs.

Pelosi also called on Democrats to vote against any effort to rescind spending in the recently passed fiscal 2018 spending package.

Democrats, Pelosi urged, much also continue to “hold the Trump Administration accountable for a culture of corruption, cronyism and incompetence.”

Pelosi repeated her call for the resignation of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt who is facing criticism over travel expenses and an agreement to rent a condominium from a lobbyist.

“But he is merely the latest example of the staggering ethical blindness emblematic of this Administration that favors special interests and corporations at the expense of America’s children and the air they breathe and water they drink,” Pelosi said.

I rewatched “The Patriot” last night for the first time in a long time, just because of everything happening to our country at the moment. It was amazing how the themes fit perfectly what is happening today. The only real difference was the time period.

It’s not just rhetoric, we truly are living through a pre-revolutionary period no less dire, and no less consequential for this nation, than was the lead up to 1776. As I watched the movie, what caught me off guard was how emotional it made me during scenes that in the past hadn’t been tear jerkers. Current events just made them so much more real. What got me the most was the incredible courage and determination that so many displayed in the face of such long odds. The scene in the church when so many of the men, and many of their sons as well, stood up to volunteer to fight as one that really got me. The Continental Army had just suffered several terrible defeats, and each of these men knew they were likely going off to their deaths, but they detested living under the tyrant’s boot heel more than they feared death.

We desperately need that same courage and spirit today. To resist and foil the plans of the tyrants in any way we are able, and if they eventually come for our lives, to fight.
