My $600 was automatically deposited in my checking account. Are these cards for people who didn’t do that, in lieu of checks?

We owe taxes every single year. I write them a big old check on top of what we’ve already paid all year. So the IRS has no bank info on us. We got a debit card the other day. Last time they sent us a check.
The debit cards are real. I transferred all the money off it into our personal account online.
