Siegfried and Roy were a big number in the circus world. First in Hollywood and later in Las Vegas, their show bringing together felines, performers and magic was a visitors’ magnet.
The “Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage Resort and Casino” show, featuring white tigers, lions, acrobatics and glamour brought in millions of dollars to the two German magicians. That was until Roy Horn’s accident on October 3, 2003, when he was attacked by his tiger Montecore during a performance.
Just the evening before, the duo had celebrated Horn’s 59th birthday and 43 years of a successful partnership.
Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn had met in 1960 on a cruise ship. Horn, who came from Nordenham in Bremerhaven in northwest Germany, worked as a pageboy on the ship, while the Bavarian Fischbacher worked there as an entertainer.
Together, they traveled the world. After many stints in Bremen, Paris, Monte Carlo and Puerto Rico, they settled down in Las Vegas in the 1970s. […]
Fischbacher was suffering from an incurable form of cancer. In July 2019, shortly before his 80th birthday, he had to undergo surgery after a suspected heart attack. “It was a narrow escape. I refrain from judgment about the lifestyle they lived (as in, I am making *no* statements for or against, as I feel it’s not my place).
One thing I *will* say in S&R’s defence, however, is that for most of their career, they refused to talk about their private lives outside the show, and wouldn’t say anything beyond the fact that they were partners in the context of the show. While it was an open secret amongst the entertainment and exotic animal care communities (the latter of which I was part of for many years). it wasn’t until the Late Nineties, when progressive culture pretty much *demanded* it of them, did S&R ever make any sort of public statement about their sexualities, and their private lives. Prior to that, they were flamboyant, but pretty much in the closet, in the same class as Liberace for most of his career.

Judging the destructive lifestyle they lived is a good thing to do. Refraining from judging it is hateful.
“Judge not” is about whether they repented of it. That we don’t know. They could be in heaven right now.

I agree with you, culture sucks, but S&R never pushed the gay agenda and shoved it down our throats. Lot of people never even knew they were gay. They were the type who truly practiced “just leave us alone and we will leave alone”
Agree. Stop putting it out there like it is a badge of honor. And feel for the innocent children allowed to be adopted into these unhealthy damaging environments.
Well, I had a dream come true when Hub and I went to Vegas and saw the Siegfried and Roy show. The tigers were beautiful and the show was magnificent. RIP to both of them......

I saw it once....many, many years ago. Yes, it was fantastic.
Saw their zoo at the Mirage casino. Beautiful, but small. No crowds when we went, and we could take our time to soak it in. There was a dolphin training pool also, and you could observe it closely, with the trainers. As parents of small children at the time, it was worth every penny to be able to slow down and let the children take a long look instead of whooshing through a big zoo.

I don’t care how they lived they were a very quiet couple NEVER pushing their lifestyle in anyone’s face AND they were together for 43 years under the absolute worst of circumstances regular married couples aren’t that faithful to each other SO if Roy is still alive this is going to be VERY HARD for him, Siegfried for years helped Roy get back on his feet after very serious injuries and stayed by his side through it all!! I don’t give a damn what their lifestyle was the were completely dedicated to each other and MOST gays don’t find this EVER!!

Yes it’s true other people live destructive lives. That doesn’t make destruction good. Not caring if someone destroys himself is the essence of hate.
