Siegfried and Roy were a big number in the circus world. First in Hollywood and later in Las Vegas, their show bringing together felines, performers and magic was a visitors’ magnet.
The “Siegfried & Roy at the Mirage Resort and Casino” show, featuring white tigers, lions, acrobatics and glamour brought in millions of dollars to the two German magicians. That was until Roy Horn’s accident on October 3, 2003, when he was attacked by his tiger Montecore during a performance.
Just the evening before, the duo had celebrated Horn’s 59th birthday and 43 years of a successful partnership.
Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn had met in 1960 on a cruise ship. Horn, who came from Nordenham in Bremerhaven in northwest Germany, worked as a pageboy on the ship, while the Bavarian Fischbacher worked there as an entertainer.
Together, they traveled the world. After many stints in Bremen, Paris, Monte Carlo and Puerto Rico, they settled down in Las Vegas in the 1970s. […]
Fischbacher was suffering from an incurable form of cancer. In July 2019, shortly before his 80th birthday, he had to undergo surgery after a suspected heart attack. “It was a narrow escape. May he rest in peace.
Sad news.
What a fruit cup
That was an act I eventually wanted to see but it ended too soon.
The two are in hell being sodomized by white tigers. Wait. That would be heaven to them.
Wow! Ray had the terrible accident and passed away in May 2020. Siegfried barely outlived him.

Nowadays, PETA would put the kabash to most similar acts that use animals. To me, the best circuses are the ones with bigger than life, wild animals. Acrobats in twisty positions (Cirque du Soleil) can only do so much for some watching from the balcony.
Roy died of Corona.
Maybe it’s “glitches in the matrix.”
Roy died last May, reportedly from the CCP virus.
Mom saw the Cirque du Soleil. Say’s it’s wonderful. She saw their traveling show in Austin.
Roy died last year.
+1
Once in a while I hear about the death of a celebrity where I could absolutely swear I had heard about them dying long before that.
This is pretty common.
OK, so I’m not crazy. Thanks for that! But the story made it sound like he was still alive.
Pancreatic cancer.
I met him and interviewed the duo in 2000. Very nice, accommodating and funny.
I brought my wife as my assistant and she has always said it was one of her favorite Vegas things we ever did.
RIP.
As a side note, from 1999 to about 2004 we were also volunteers with a couple of big cat rescues in NV, AZ and CA and the two of them had an open heart and and open checkbook to help the rescue community. They will be missed.
