Let us go, children of the fatherland,
Our day of glory has arrived.
Against us the bloody flag of tyranny
is raised; the bloody
flag is raised.
Do you hear in the countryside
The roar of those savage soldiers?
They come right into our arms
To cut the throats of our sons, our comrades.
To arms, citizens!
Form your battalions,
Let us march, let us march!
That their impure blood
Should water our fields.
Sacred love of the fatherland,
Guide and support our vengeful arms.
Liberty, beloved liberty,
Fight with your defenders; fight
with your defenders.
Under our flags, so that victory
Will rush to your manly strains;
That your dying enemies
Should see your triumph and glory!
To arms, citizens! etc.
I never really listened to these words before. It'd be Twitter banned for sure.
A great anthem and her rendition is excellent.
I thought so too.
I came across it randomly and the words were of interest.
The French Revolution is not a good model...
Allons enfants de la Patrie! We had to memorize it in French class.
We had to learn it in French class a very long time ago. Pardonnez moi pour les mal mots (obviously I cheat a little when I don’t know more precise words like for “mistakes”
And I am lousy with this iPhone keyboard!
The cheese-eating surrender monkeys have a truly great song.
We need the scene from Casablanca where they are singing down the Nazis.
Yeah, I learned it in a French class in school as a young ‘un. Pretty bloody stuff.
“We need the scene from Casablanca where they are singing down the Nazis.”
Great scene.
I knew the song from Allan Sherman when I was a kid.

Her rendition is the best!
I had a semester of French and consider it a waste of the Sister’s time and mine... Kinda’ like trying to teach a pig to sing, a waste of time for the teacher and it irritates the pig. But the women who sings it is apparently a talent and a truly gifted singer. She sings all genres from Queen to the classics, and a looker too. Thanks again FR. And Google.
I was watching Casablanca at the dentist office when having work done, when that scene comes up I cry every time, the dentist asked if I needed more pain killer, I shook my head no and smiled.
