Cupertino, California — Apple today announced a set of major new projects as part of its $100 million Racial Equity and Justice Initiative (REJI) to help dismantle systemic barriers to opportunity and combat injustices faced by communities of color. These forward-looking and comprehensive efforts include the Propel Center, a first-of-its-kind global innovation and learning hub for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs); an Apple Developer Academy to support coding and tech education for students in Detroit; and venture capital funding for Black and Brown entrepreneurs. Together, Apple’s REJI commitments aim to expand opportunities for communities of color across the country and to help build the next generation of diverse leaders.
“We are all accountable to the urgent work of building a more just, more equitable world — and these new projects send a clear signal of Apple’s enduring commitment,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’re launching REJI’s latest initiatives with partners across a broad range of industries and backgrounds — from students to teachers, developers to entrepreneurs, and community organizers to justice advocates — working together to empower communities that have borne the brunt of racism and discrimination for far too long. We are honored to help bring this vision to bear, and to match our words and actions to the values of equity and inclusion we have always prized at Apple.” Jared Bailey wearing AirPods and holding an iPad. Jared Bailey, a senior at Morehouse College, has integrated Apple’s coding and creativity curricula into his public health and community service work as part of the school’s partnership with Apple, a collaboration that is expanding further with the launch of the Propel Center.
Last June, Apple announced REJI in the wake of protests around the world following the killings of Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and countless others.

And, believe me, they’re looking real, real hard to round out their little box of crayons.
I love Apple products but the hypocrisy galls me. Tech company full of dudes. Almost entirely white and mostly male. Telling me I’m not woke enough.
In 2020 Apple revenue was $274 Billion. $100 million is 0.036% of this number.
If it keeps the diversity police off their tail for a year it is well worth it.
40 iTunes and an iPhone.
So, Tim Cook is relinquishing his position for someone of color?
“...It won’t be America made no matter what you get. But at least you can brag about how much you hate Apple and Apple users. If acting like Samsung or any other computer product is made by tiny over paid elves that loves America makes you feel better, rave on.
If you look around maybe you will find all the large corporations that supported or supports Trump, there should be no end of them. Or maybe one that supports you and your fellow agitators...”
Wow.
First off I don’t “hate” Apple or Apple users. I have a whole houseful of their products, including the one I’m on right now. Been using their for years. Love their products, despise their politics. They should do what they do best and stay out of political arena. It would be “smart” to do so.
I’m fully aware that there are no “American-made” phones, and I’ll still make my personal choices with MY money...and yes, it will definitely make me feel better. IF that’s what you call an “agitator”, that’d definitely be me, and I wear that badge proudly.
Thanks for the ping. Love the graphic, lol.
Tim Cook is an absolute disaster.
This must be some tax dodge.
When I read your post again I changed my mind about what you intended to convey. I have a house full of Apple products because they work all the time almost flawlessly for me.
I hate Apple's social position and their political position and wish they would just continue making and selling great products, but apparently they won't. But pretending that being enraged buy them and picking another platform so that you won't be supporting a leftest organization is laughable because they are all the same, except Apple's products actually work flawlessly for most people. Hackers hate them because they can't do what ever they want with them easily. They should just build what ever they want and leave us alone.
Thirty years ago I was actively involved in user's groups and found friendly helpful people in the Apple groups, help was always free from members. In the PC users group new stuff was often discussed but when it came to help you usually got a business card with address and business hours. Apple users and products were a distinct threat to their business.
Most of my products are 2012 , or older and guess what, they all still work. That is why I still own and use Apple not because of who Apple is but because of what they make. I hate Amazon's political stance but I actually need their service. I blame conservatives for not building competitive alternatives, same with news and computers it is after all, up until now, an open market.
I am 82 years old and have voted for the lesser of two evils all my life with the exception of Reagan and Trump and what has that gained us? I have often voted unknowingly for evil incarnate, for example Cheney family had me completely deluded. Leftist actor's were actually enjoyable entertainment, now most of them have soured me on all of them, some I have likely unfairly judged but they should speak out. But then again being able to work and earn a living is important too.
Let me sum up by saying I hate Apple and their political positions as much as anyone, but I won't participate in the false notion that proclaiming I will use someone else's product will somehow magically fight their position when I know that it only elevates another one just like them. Just for fun go back to 1998 when the PC/Apple wars raged here and see who hated who. My stupid screen name is the result of entering the fray noting that the battle was a hoot.
I have yet to have anyone able to actually articulate what is “just” about the social justice garbage going on like this. The very same ethnicity-based decisions, grants, preferences, etc. that are necessary to carry out such massive “justice”, are, by their very definition, racist!
