Ever since Amazon Studios announced that it was developing a TV series inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, fans have wondered exactly what the series will explore, with TheOneRing.net unveiling the series' official synopsis, which gives insight into what fans can expect. The synopsis confirms that the new series will take place during the Second Age of Middle-earth and will explore an ensemble of characters, with the site claiming that this ensemble means both new and familiar figures for the franchise will be featured. Given that the title "The Lord of the Rings" refers to a specific set of characters and specific adventures, it's unknown what the series' official title might be.
TheOneRing.net describes the series,
"Amazon Studios’ forthcoming series brings to screens for the very first time the heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone."
Much like fans have wondered what the concept of the series would be, they also wondered if we could expect to see any well-known characters for the franchise making any appearances. With the timeline of the new series, impossibilities were presented in regards to mortal characters appearing, yet we do know that we can expect some magical characters to make an appearance. Galadriel and Elrond, for example, are some of the characters we can plan on spending time with, who appeared in both The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.
How much time we'll spend with these established characters, however, is yet to be confirmed.
phuck off amazon
A-men.
I understand that they are going for an adult audience. That kind of counts me out because of the graphic sex that they may want.
Sacrilege!!!
Bearded dwarf females getting jiggy with hairless elf males.
Watch. They will have transgender orcs. Sam will make moves on Frodo. Éowyn will be up on charges for corrupting Merry. Gotta keep up with the times, you see.
Not sure what you mean. If all you read is they are going for an adult audience that doesn’t necessarily mean the show will have graphic sex. It would be a big mistake if it did.

This is making the same mistake that Disney made with ”Solo”, or that were made with Ridley Scott’s ”Prometheus”. Sometimes it’s best to leave the backstory a mystery. That adds to the drama.
It is now out of the hands of the Tolkien estate, unfortunate. You’re right that it betray his memory and what he was trying to teach.
That’s why I won’t watch it, because those producing it are not deep Catholics.
These are heathens who need to have graphic sex, instead of deep philosophies, in order to thrill and hold an audience.
I don’t think they will remain faithful to Tolkien.
the family hasnt had control of film and TV rights since the sixties, when JRR sold them. Christopher would not have been able to protect. I find the story setting interesting, I think that Bezos personally intervened to nab the rights, and I have a small hope that he has enough respect for the story (being a geek himself) to not let anyone “HBO” it. He personally intervened and got us two more seasons of the Expanse which has been really really good so far (and true to the books)
F*ck Amazon. I’ll read “The Silmarillion” again.
...Bearded dwarf females getting jiggy with hairless elf males....
Half-Dwarves? Or Half-elfs... how does this classification work? Like Obama was half white and half kenyan black, but he was called “black” or african american...
Kamila is half jamcian / half dot indian ... but she is afro-american??? Shakin My Head... SMH
Thats the point though. The left (and the devil) takes beautiful things and distorts and contorts them into ugly things.
They will certainly betray his memory. It is what they always do and it will not be on accident.
In 1967, our Second Grade teacher read us the first book. I completely understand how Netflix would try and sexualize the story about little people and fairies. After all, the Obama’s are on the board now.
Solo wasn’t a bad Saturday matinee movie. It just had the misfortune of being a follow up movie to the feminist project of the sequels.
I do agree that not every nook and cranny needs to be explored. Some things are left better as a mystery.
Too bad that I will no longer use Amazon
