He was also the founder of The National Presidential Election, where The Citizens vote directly for President, not Congress.
Jackson was a populist. He threatened to hang South Carolina politicians during the nullification crisis. His election gave rise to the Age of the Common Man, which is was before being coopted by the progressives. Also, he had the guts to stand the line against an “unbeatable” British army at New Orleans, probably saving the Mississippi Valley and west for the USA. A gutsy man-of-his-times Patriot, don’t put him down—he ain’t here to defend himself.
