Mozilla has decided to join the Progressive fascists.
I am leaving Mozilla behind as of today.
I am writing this while on the Brave browser. It's just a start in the move from Firefox.
After sufficient investigation today I will move my Email out of the use of the Thunderbird Email client.
I have enjoyed using both Firefox and Thunderbird.
But Mozilla has made continuing with them a treasonous act, cow towing to fascist thought and speech control demands.
I would ask all Conservatives using Mozilla products to follow me in the move away from them.
Right beside you friend.
Next is moving to Proton email and the home PC to Linux
It, Thunderbird, is owned by a subsidiary of the Mozilla foundation.
Are there any true alternatives to Thunderbird? I prefer to use an email client (other than Outlook) and have been using Thunderbird for some time now.
I am going to take a look at Mailbird - but it is not free, though the cost seems really small. I can see that, because maintaining any software costs and Thunderbird had the advantage of being part of the non-profit Mozilla Foundation, where donations exceeding costs do not get taxed as profits.
Sadly, there aren’t many email clients. Seems like it’s either outlook or thunderbird for windows users. There are a couple others for Linux users. I run Kubuntu and use Evolution which is similar to thunderbird. Has Contacts, Tasks, Calendar, Email. No version for windows though.
Claws isn’t too bad. Eudora is an oldie but good iirc.

Falkon.org (Chromium based)
vivaldi.com (Chromium based)
Chromium is Chrome before google adds to it. Google sponsors Chromium development but Chromium is open source while Chrome is not.
Brave is also Chromium based.
Not entirely.
I switched my work computer to Brave back then...
Eventually my IT guy got pissed at me.
He revoked my install privileges, and deleted Brave.
He is now long gone, but the punishment remains.
You might want to try palemoon.org. It’s not safe to run an old browser. palemoon is very customizable and it’s based on an old version of firefox but tweaked and updated.

Eudora and Claws are probably your best bet.

I’ve been using thunderbird for my email for years. Any suggestions for a good replacement? I just really like the interface. I hate mail.com’s layout.
I am looking at Mailbird - it costs but is very cheap in my view. I too hate all the “on the web” Email interfaces, and even with Thunderbird I use a POP account, not an IMAP account , and I have the function for deleting the Emails on the server set to yes (when they are downloaded to Thunderbird on my PC). THAT is usually a standard option with POP accounts on Email client apps, I believe.
Thanks.
Thanks! Will check them out. I’m really liking this conservative divestment thing. If Parler survives, it will be a billion dolllar company in a week.
Thank you for the information. I am not familiar with Thunderbird or POP. Is it difficult to set up the way you have it?
Thank you for the information. I am really old-school. I use a planner for contacts, tasks, and calendar. I just want a simple and safe e-mail server.
No.
Thunderbird I believe still offers a Wizard.
It begins by when you go to create an account for the first time.
It asks if you want to use an existing “account”, actually meaning an existing Email address. You give it your Hotmail or whatever Email address. It looks on the Internet for the right settings for your specific Email provider. At some point it will ask for a password when it goes to check out access to your Email, and you give it the password you are using with your web based Email provider.
The only sticking point I know of is if, hopefully, it asks if you want the account set up as POP or IMAP. I am afraid if it does not ask you it will default to IMAP.
If your present account is an Outlook account, and it is an IMAP account, there may be problems. Outlook does not have/like converting existing Email data from an IMAP account to a POP account. MS does not even have outook conevrsion tools to/from other client server Email systems. Outlook uses a proprietory MS database system while many other Email systems either use the same or similar databases and offer conversion tools from and to each other.
However, that - conversion of existing Email data - may not be an issue for someone who only has “current” Email in an Inbox and does not have folders and folders of many other Emails (like I would) of Emails that have been saved for future refenerence/research/reading.
If all you wanted was just stuff sitting in a Hotmail inbox, then once your POP account was set up in a 3rd party client Email system like Thunderbird is that those Emails would be grabbed the 1st time you hit the “Get Messages” button. Now then, in that vein, when most web based Email systems respond to 3rd party Email applications pulling down Emails they usually move the Emails so taken to their “Junk” (or similar folder) in their web app, and leave them there for a set number of days before deleting them.
If you ever need help with and actual Email change, send me a Freeper private message and we’ll hook up in some way so that I can help you in real time (”pro bono my fellow Freeper LOL).
I am looking at Mailbird - it is not free but it is cheap in my view. But there are many alternatives.
Somewhere in this thread is a post with a Wiki link for a Wiki page that has a long list of 3rd party Email client applications. I forget which one it is, but it is in this thread somewhere.
