Had the Houston Texans stayed the course and followed the recommendation of the search firm Korn Ferry, they likely would have hired Pittsburgh Steelers vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan as their next general manager, league sources told ESPN.

Khan and ESPN Monday Night Football analyst Louis Riddick, who are both minority candidates, were the two finalists before Texans owner Cal McNair changed his mind, ignored the recommendation of the search firm he paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to do weeks of work and hired former New England Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, sources said.

Why would a player be involved in the hiring of management? He works for them.

Lemme guess, the new hire is not "a person of color"?

WTF???

Why would any franchise do such a self-destructive thing? After all, by not accepting the applications of two persons of color, the ownership is clearly displaying their systemic racist underpinnings. And what could the Director of Player Personnel for the most successful franchise in the history of football over the past two decades know about the game? Certainly not more than two candidates of color.

They tried to hire Nick in 2019. The Rooney Rule compelled them to go through the motions.

And Deshaun Watson is basically threatening to leave the team because of it.

The inmates are running the asylum.

I am going to send you a private message, music related. Lyrics seem so apt. I am sure you will recognize the obscure band. Coming at you in 5-4-3...

Why don't we let the market decide?

The owner made his decision, which he had the authority and the right to do. Now we'll see what happens...

Will the players, who are overwhelmingly black, continue to play for a team owner accused of systemic racism?

Will the networks continue to pay for and broadcast Rockets games, putting money in that cracker's pocket?

Will the fans continue to buy Rockets tickets and merch?

My guess is the players will play, and the networks and fans will pay. There may be a new patch sewn on their uniforms, virtue signalling commitment to an idea they flagrantly and hypocritically ignore. It matters not to me, I won't be watching.

Oops. Texans, not Rockets. Football, not basketball.

Everything I said still applies, though.

That was a mistake. You hire a diversity candidate for the General Manager job. Then you hire "your guy" for Director of Personnel position.

It's insulting for excellent coaches like Mike Tonkin and Tony Dungy who have won Super Bowls and that's not because they're Black but you know this is the new America we live in.

Every corporate board in America will have at least 50% female and minority. Take a look at South Africa to see what they're doing. We are only 20 years behind them, or a generation.

When the player is a star who your team simply can't afford to lose and your team has already wasted the first few years of his career through incredibly stupid personnel moves (and Houston has), it's just good business sense to get his buy-in.
