BTW, It is an Xfinity wireless modem but I am ethernet attached, I’m talking to you right now under Ubuntu but I’m not thrilled with it,... I think I would like something more RH like or Knoppix like.
If your modem is Xfinity I’ll assume it’s cable.
If it’s cable there is not normally any need to configure anything “modem” related. Just tell Knoppix to use ethernet port and get IP address from router/modem.
Why don’t you solve your original Knoppix ISO image problem while you have Ubuntu working??? I don’t understand your initial requirement to have old Knoppix working to get new Knoppix CD for new install.
For example;
go to the following page
https://knopper.net/knoppix-mirrors/index-en.html
Select a mirror and download the CD image.
Burn it to a CD. Boot on the CD and install 8.6.1 Knoppix and declare success? That is your stated goal.
BTW, I’m NOT a Knoppix user, Slackware is my distro since 1995.
I think Ubuntu uses ‘grub’ for booting. DuckDuckGo “grub dual boot winxp”. Exidently “super grub” is how many folks get winxp workin again...
