“They can nuke us.”
“Puff can put a bullet in every square inch of a football field in seconds.”
And the such.
Such mass execution would sure cement the legitimacy of the federal government in the minds of the people, wouldn’t it?
I’m sure that everyone would jump for joy at the instant obliteration of their fellow citizens, knowing that it could be them next time. /s

There are two ways to achieve legitimacy. One is way that western civilization has for the most part done it until now, by the general support of the population. The other is the way that China, Russia, Iran, and numerous other command governments have done it. And yes, mass executions have and do have a part in that. And the response amongst the population is far more often cowering fear than rebellion. Fear works, often for a long time. And given the Leftist proclivity for violence and fear throughout history, and the Leftist sensibilities of our new rulers, I would not be so certain that you won’t see fear work in just that manner here.
