Actually the music and vocals are totally my band. We didn’t jump around like Neil but everything you are hearing and seeing is us. I edited Neil in by slowing down the song and syncing in picture footage of Neil singing the lyrics. That was tricky but it mostly worked. I use to be in a Neil Young cover band so that song was familiar to me and my vocal kind of does the trick. I too saw Neil but for me it was disappointing: very long solo that made you go to sleep and endings that were as long as the song. it was during his ARC period.
Yeah, I don’t agree with his politics but I do like some of his songs. Maybe call it “cultural appropriation” of a lefty’s song and making it your own.
You played it well. I used to play it with my old band. It's a good example of how one can make a pretty good song with just four chords.
I admire your positivity about the freedom aspect of the song. The reality, though, is that it has nothing to do with freedom. It's a sarcastic political song bashing George HW Bush.
Kneel can puh cough.
Though he converted to being a TWSHUS citizen. Anyone? Mueller?
Thanks.
Yup
/a southern ‘mander don’t need him around, anyhow
I agree but I have “culturally appropriated” Neil’s song and for me it’s an anthem about freedom. When I did this song back in the 90’s I changed the last verse because of the IRAQ war and made my own lyrics. Those are not the original lyrics. But though I hate his leftist politics I do think he is musically talented and I can only hope that one day he would “grow up.”
Yes, call it cultural “appropriation.” I like the music but can’t stand the politics. Weird how those two things can be so different. I heard the line: never meet you hero because they will bound to disappoint. So far this is true with artists I have met that inspired me.
I like the Leningrad Cowboys version best of all of them.

I just wanted to be encouraging and optimistic. Freedom is key so that we don’t become China 2.0. I hate Neil’s politics but I do like some of his songs. Just consider this one to be “culturally appropriated” from a lefty to endorse the bigger cause of Freedom.
Very true. I like you dynamite line!
You’re right. It was about Bush — which, in retrospect, we all love bashing as a globalist now. I changed the lyric of the last verse because of the first Iraq war. So we can take liberties with songs. Thanks for the compliment!
Yes, he can. He is a prick and his lefty politics stink. But I like some of his songs despite his egotistic, political insanity. Weird how things like that happen where you like somebody’s art but hate their personality and views. But apparently it’s not that uncommon.
I don’t know, but I certainly hope that’s not true.
We have enough home grown lunatics.
Great post.
I Iike Lennon’s music. He died the day after my tenth birthday, so I didn’t know much about him until my adulthood. What I’ve heard about him wasn’t too good.
Same with The Eagles. I love their music, but absolutely hate their politics. I definitely have no interest in meeting Don Henley, lol. He has the reputation of being a horrible human being.
I didn’t know that.
Thanks for the info.
Yes. I used listen to him.
Thanks. Yeah, it’s amazing how that works out that you can love somebody’s music and hate their personality and politics. There have been a number of artists I’ve met because I liked their music and then I find out I can’t stand them. I imagine the Eagles are like that too. Hippy dippy cool California crowd, talented — YES — but with unstable personalities and flaky leftist politics. I think they use to play for Democrat governors and conventions in the 70s. God knows why it is that way.
