This is me playing with Neil Young. It was a simulcast back in the 90s... hahaha. This is a song of HOPE. Don't despair -- good things will be coming. It's the start of a new beginning and a call to action. Like a Phoenix emerging out of the ashes, a stronger, freer Eagle will arise.
So many in this country are so clueless, they wouldn’t notice if a stick of dynamite went off up their ass. What’s interesting is the guys who do my yard work have a better idea of what’s going on than my white collar investment bankers and doctor neighbors.
Neil Young probably isn’t the best guy to be talking about at this time.. but you have gone from 15 - 20 views so I guess you got what you wanted !
Great post!
I love your thinking. Let’s use their hippie song against them. I had 10 or so Neil Young albums at one time.
I hate to be that person, but if you look at the lyrics, he’s being sarcastic, saying that this is the “free world” but all he sees are desperate homeless people and junkies, because all our capitalist lifestyle gives us is war, cheap junk, and environmental destruction. But hey, enjoy that “freedom” to be left in the gutter. Neil Young’s a hard leftie.

Unfortunately, your idea of rockin’ in the free world and Neil’s are 180 degrees apart. Neil believes we will be free rockin’ beginning on January 20 (even though he won’t be able to play any concerts due to COVID restrictions).
As much as I’ve been a fan of Neil Young’s since I was a kid, and got to see him live at Budokan from the third row, and enjoy all that hippy music too, he’s not the right guy to be pumping up here. This was a song he wrote in protest to George W. Bush, if I remember correctly. He’s a major lefty whack-job that happens to have an awesome guitar sound, as are (unfortunately) a lot of musicians I like. For a good example of a great guitarist (mostly death metal) that wasn’t a lefty, check out Ralph Santolla, may God rest his soul.
Other than that, this is your band jamming *to* Rockin’ In The Free World, not *with*, but thanks for posting anyway. We need some fun distractions.
Young is a piece of work. He cheated on his wife after 40 years. Now is with Daryl Hannah of Splash fame. He is a bit commie having stopped Trump from using his music. At least he kept himself clean. No drugs.
F**k Neil Young.
He’s an obnoxious, untalented, Anti-American freak who can’t sing; He whines.
That particular song is incredibly boring, as is all of his songs.
He needs to return to his home country of Canada. He’s a Canadian who constantly slams the US.
Young revealed himself to be another creep of the social left.
Whiny, and preachy. and Canadian. Buffalo Springfield gave him a start because he was getting US airplay coverage from Canadian stations that have to, by law play 90% Canadian acts— back in the day. Only changed in the US by the internet, which affected all commercial airplay back into the obvious payola- illegal and still going on.
You’re right... the artist is a huge disappointment politically. Like John Lennon he have been captured by the left, though both can pen some pretty good songs. But I like the message of the song of being free. The artist, and sometimes meeting your heroes, can be a big disappointment.
I would guess they don’t have Jackson Browne over for dinner very often.
You’re right and there is no accounting for how politics and art can be so far apart. I like his song writing to a point but his politics are abysmal. The same thing with John Lennon, though I heard he was coming around to the right towards the end. It was because he liked Ronald Reagan. Still the song is about freedom and that is the important thing.
You’re right and I too hate his politics. It is a let down but I do think he can write some good songs. This one I like because it’s about freedom — for me that the key thing. I like John Lennon’s music but he was far left too. Weird how you can like the art but hate the personality... there are others like that for me too. There is a saying that if you ever meet your heroes, they’ll let you down.
Yeah, I too dislike his politics and lifestyle. But he has written some good songs and it’s weird how personality and talent can diverge. Still, this song is about Freedom and that to me is the important thing. Yeah never know, maybe someday he’ll have a change of heart and give up his old ways like John Lennon supposedly had done after talking to Ronald Reagan.
You're kidding, right? He has been a life-long stoner plus got pretty heavy into cocaine for a while. He did give up weed for a year or two a couple of years ago, but it didn't last.
You are right that he's one of the world's biggest assh*les, though. He has sh*t on just about everybody he has been involved with musically and romantically.
