@RandPaul
This is the speech I'll be giving today from an undisclosed location.
I wrote a speech today.
I was planning to say I fear the chaos of establishing a precedent that Congress can overturn elections.
Boy, was I right.
Chaos. Anarchy. It’s wrong and un-American.
The vote we are about to cast is important.
Now more than ever.
The question is: Should Congress override the certified results from the states and nullify the states’ right to conduct elections?
The vote today is not a protest; the vote today is literally to overturn the election!
Voting to overturn state-certified elections would be the opposite of what states’ rights Republicans have always advocated for.
This would doom the electoral college forever.
It was never intended by our founders that Congress have the power to overturn state-certified elections.
My oath to the Constitution doesn’t allow me to disobey the law. I cannot vote to overturn the verdict of the states.
Such a vote would be to overturn everything held dear by those of us who support the rights of states in this great system of federalism bequeathed to us by our founders.
The electoral college was created to devolve the power of selecting presidential electors to the states.
The electoral college is, without question, an inseparable friend to those who believe that every American across our vast country deserves to be heard.
If Congress were given the power to overturn the states’ elections . . . what terrible chaos would ensue.
Imagine the furor against the electoral college if Congress becomes a forum to overturn states’ electoral college slates.
It is one thing to be angry. It is another to focus one’s anger in a constructive way. That hasn’t happened today, to say the least. We simply cannot destroy the Constitution, our laws, and the electoral college in the process.
I hope as the nation’s anger cools, we can channel that energy into essential electoral reforms in every state.
America is admired around the world for our free elections. We must, we absolutely must, fix this mess and restore confidence and integrity to our elections.
This problem will be moved up in priority - count on the socialists to address it fast.
think it’s time to abandon the republican party, take over the democrat party and drive the communists out. It’s our only chance.
Well, then if the state commits unequivocal fraud and doesn’t correct it, the feds have to just go along with the slaughter?
I think at least Congress/Pence/whoever could return the electoral count with the mountains of evidence attached and request to reconsider. The Constitution doesn’t mandate officials be stupid.
The Courts are completely tainted so they won’t help.
Notice when it comes to overcoming Leftist malfeasance, the constitutional letter of the law is slave-labored over. But with most other acts of the Left, the Constitution is basically ignored.
Since when has Congressional leaders cared abut OUR Constitution.....they’ve been stepping on it for four years trying to take out Trump.. People are not going to get over this travesty and fake election......never.
It’s not overturning an election it’s not certifying a fraudulent election - there’s a difference and if he can’t tell what it is he’s not fit for office.
He’s a spineless weasel. He doesn’t want to cross his fellow Kentuckian China Mitch, apparently.
There are just a handful of Senators I would support in the future and Rand Paul is not one of them...
Exactly right.
democrats are allowed to steal elections with impunity
alinsky wins....we are destroyed by them applying our rules to us, while they flout them
It’s the same old story. GOP giving Dems a mulligan to defeat Trump. We’ve seen it over and over the past 4 years during the bipartisan coup.
Fan of Rand Paul.
For those saying he has been in DC too long; he’s been there 10 years! Nothing compared to some.
He is up in ‘22. I was surprised he took this position but it is what it is.
I hope it doesn’t put his seat at risk in KY
Is the Republic Dead?
Has it really been Dead for 20 years and nobody would admit it?
Have the Congress sold out our nation 30 years ago and hid it, because what they did was a crime they could execute them for?
Winner, winner chicken dinner. It’s far more likely CW2 is over than it is starting now. Progressives and their corportist allies are in firm control of all of our corrupt institutions.
think it’s time to abandon the republican party, take over the democrat party and drive the communists out. It’s our only chance.
I considered the same premise yesterday.
Byron York is on Faux News trying to blame Trump for the violence.
“340 million guns in the hands of the citizenry.”
Not even.
You will never find the perfect senator...
Wow! I thought Rand had more sense than this!
The state legislatures got rolled by Democrat partisans who stole the 2020 election.
By objecting to these improper certifications, Congress would NOT be overriding the authority of the states!
They would have been RESTORING that authority to the state legislatures where it belongs!
I am so disappointed in Rand Paul!
I guess the Democrat thugs beat the snot out of him one too many times.
“Chaos. Anarchy. It’s wrong and un-American.”
So is stealing elections and having no redress either through the courts, the Supreme Court or the state legislatures. That Rand is the cause of the chaos today.
All I hear on tv is people yelling because they are afraid they will lose their easy money jobs.
No friends to the US there.
I think he could care less about Mitch. Remember he opposed him in 2010.
Although I suppose Mitch will feel relieved about this.
The GOP Senate wanted their colleague, Biden, in there, and they got him.
Trump used the number 24 as far as GOP Senators he helped. He also intimated last night many won’t take his phone calls now.
