I've had the good fortune to ride the Baldwin 2-8-0 #734 ('Mountain Thunder') Polar Express excursion at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad back home. It's currently sitting on a Ridgeley, VW side line, awaiting boiler inspection, because the WMSR purchased a Mallet 2-6-6-2 engine from the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore, and it took up most of the interior of the shop to restore it. As soon as #1309 ('Maryland Thunder') gets certified and is back on the rails, #734 will be pushed in for the same mandatory boiler inspection and service. I think you may appreciate a certain recently departed game show host who scratched off a boyhood fantasy on his bucket list and ran #734 up to Frostburg and back.

I did ride a vintage train in Sacramento and Virginia City, NV. Very much enjoyed it.
