Sandra Scully, the beloved wife of Dodgers’ Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully, died Sunday evening, the Scully family announced. She was 76.

Sandra had been battling with Lou Gehrig’s disease for several years and received care at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, where she ultimately succumbed to complications from ALS.

She was born on Dec. 27, 1944, in Cascade, Virginia, and married Vin in November of 1973.

Scully leaves behind 93-year-old Vin, her husband of 48 years, and children Catherine, Kelly, Erin, Todd, Kevin and Michael, as well as 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The couple had one daughter, Catherine, together, and Sandra had two children of her own from a previous marriage. Vin had three children with his first wife, who died of an accidental overdose in 1972, the AP reported.

RIP to Vin's wife...

I did attend Vin's last home game many years ago...It was a good experience...Vin performed a song for the fans after the game...His wife was at the stadium...Vin told the fans how much he loved his wife.

I cannot think of anybody is who is better at broadcasting a baseball game than Vin...Certainly not Ted Leitner...I sometimes listened to Padres radio broadcast done by Leitner...I got annoyed listening to him...He criticized umpires and players...He could not just describe the action.

Vin's first wife passed away in 1972...His oldest son died in a helicopter crash...

I wish him the best...He is 93 years old...I don't know how many more years he's got left...I think it is possible for somebody to die from a broken heart.

I remember Leitner - he used to do the evening sports when I was going to college at UC San Diego. He's still around?

You were lucky. I was stuck in the NY market for broadcast baseball games and had to put up with Lindsey Nelson and Ralph Kiner.

At one time, LA had the best three pro sports announcers of all time:

Vin Scully for the Dodgers.
Chick Hearn for the Lakers.
Bob Miller for the Kings.

Growing up in SoCal, my radio was on almost every night listening to one of them.

Ted Leitner is broadcasting the San Diego State mens’ basketball games. A few years ago he was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the kidney. Diagnosis was wrong.

In the early years when the Dodgers were playing at the Coliseum, so many in the stands would be listening to Vin on their transistor radios, that you didn’t need a radio to hear him. My aunt who was a Yankee fan and despised all things Dodgers and L.A. used to say that the L.A. fans were so ignorant of the game they had to have Vin explain it to them.

At one time, LA had the best three pro sports announcers of all time:

You can add Dick Enberg of the Rams. When Enberg was announcing a game, you didn't need a TV because his description of the action was so vivid ("Gabriel back to pass...fires it over the middle, caught by Jack Snow at the 40...Ooh, is he hit at the 35").

Ted Leitner is broadcasting the San Diego State mens’ basketball games.

Iirc Leitner was a sports anchor at Philly's WCAU-10 (and doing Eagles preseason games on that station) in the late '70s, preempting CBS programming. WCAU is now an NBC station.

Back to topic. May both Mrs. Scullys rest in peace. You'll no doubt flip a coin to determine who'll pull up a chair for Vin when he joins you. :)
