One of the common memes in our racist-sexist-homophobe world is that Conservatism Inc. betrayed us. They never stood their ground, always caving to the libs, whether on race, on spending, on deficits, and now on election fraud, Chief Justice John Roberts.
But this assumes that we Americans are actually in control of our fate. You think?

And so the Democrat strategy is to pile on more government loot by administrative trickery and Lawfare in the courts; they have to because nobody is going to agree to pay for climate change out of their Social Security or Medicare benefits. Republican strategy is to cut taxes and regulations and let the chips fall where they may. Because the net result of 40 years of Republican politics since Reagan is that real spending cuts are pie-in-the-sky.
Obviously, at some point, the game is up and the Treasury can’t sell enough bonds and the Fed can’t print enough money, and the American people flood into the streets demanding to keep their Social Security and Medicare benefits, and then government officials start investigating how to access your Fidelity and Vanguard accounts, not to mention your nice little hoard of gold coins and your Bitcoin stash.
Couldn’t happen here? Ask an Argentinian about the “Corralito” which began by freezing dollar denominated accounts and ended with Argentinians being forced to convert U.S. dollar denominated bank accounts into Argentinian pesos.

I am not keen on trading a current tax deduction for the promise of one in the future when there’s nothing that stops Congress from taking away the future tax exemption for Roth IRAs. A Roth conversion is even more ridiculous because you’re trading away PRIOR tax deductions for a future one that may disappear.
And here’s the best part of the story ...
When I explained my rationale to my financial advisor, he agreed with my cynicism and began advising his other clients NOT to do Roth IRA conversions.
If John Roberts is involved in anything, it would likely have happened in Mauritius. He likes to vacation there and they have a slave market there.
Our IRAs and 401ks are a gigantic juicy peach that D’rats will squeeze as soon as they have the opportunity.

TBH I could work and live without investments. I do enjoy a house though.
Roth or traditional will get pillaged the only question is when. The combined pot of retirement savings is too large for politicians to keep their greedy hands off. It will start as only a small tax but once, as is the norm, the mechanism is in place the rate of raiding will only increase. The left will make pushing granny of the cliff fashionable.
It’s going to be all the harder given that Rush Limbaugh probably doesn’t have long. No one, including Rush, thought he’d make it this far.
However, maybe Rush needs to talk with Freeper Jeff Head, who had a virtual death sentence (could be off in my math) more than 15 years ago. We all remember when Jeff had cancer in the bones in his back and thought it was the end.
Jeff is STILL WITH US AND GOING STRONG.

I have to tell you, I got my financial disclosure forms yesterday. Holy cow. I have to list every single asset and debt I have, all for the honor of doing a free job.
Eh. An IRA let’s your account grow tax deferred. That tax deferral is the hook.
Don’t want the government to have such a large hook into your investments? Pull it out of a pre-tax account.
Pretty, no indeed. Violence of the sort I envision is not pretty at all. It is inevitable, however; it’s only a matter of how much of it either side can take.
The government will always have a hook. The question is how big is it?
Accounts which have the smallest government hook as possible is the goal.

When second rate minds that can win popularity contests are executing instructions they get from folks that actually are smart, it LOOKS like they are 2 steps ahead...

This is why the only part of my retirement nestegg that is touchable by the FedGov is my SS. I cashed out all of my 401K’s, accepting the penalties, to distance it from them.
I said in mid April that our state and local governments were committing suicide with the lockdowns and the FedGov was setting us up for massive inflation.
When you prevent people from producing, consuming, buying and selling, you cut off the major source of income for governments. The federal government can just “print more”, and bring with it price inflation, probably hyper inflation if the lockdown goes more than a month or so. But local governments simply face the same challenge a family faces when the main bread winner loses his job. They had better just hope they don’t have a lot of debt or they are absolutely screwed.
And here we are - and why my tag line exists.
