Nick Saban has graduated another member from his coaching rehab at the University of Alabama.
After the Crimson Tide earned a 31-14 win over Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl Game, reports starting flying about Steve Sarkisian possibly becoming the new head football coach for the Texas Longhorns. According to sources, yours truly of Touchdown Alabama Magazine learned the same information. In the craziness of this Saturday, there was even a report about Sarkisian potentially turning the job down.
At the end of the day, the Longhorns have made it official with the 46-year-old.

Texas parted ways from Tom Herman after having him for four seasons.
It targeted this year’s Broyles Award winner, and the nation’s top assistant coach has accepted.
With that being said, sources have still confirmed with me that Sarkisian will coach the College Football Playoff National Championship Game for the Tide against Ohio State on Monday, Jan. 11 at HardRock Stadium in Miami, Fla.
Through two season, he operated a powerful offense at Alabama.
Will The News Of Steve Sarkisian Taking The Texas Job Be A Massive Distraction For Alabama?
(Championship Game 1-11-2021)
I think Todd Herman should be considered as a replacement for Steve Sarkisian as Alabama's next offensive coordinator.
(I know, I know)
BTW, I'm boycotting all sports except Alabama football.
Maybe he can bring that Washington Husky luck to Texas (34-29)...js
Texas won their just played bowl game. What gives.
Didn’t Sarkisian accept another job in the past and Saban let him go before the final game? What’s different this time?
The Longhorns absolutely wrecked Colorado at the Valero Bowl
I don’t think Steve Sarkisian is the second coming of Darrell Royal, or even Mack Brown.
I think it was a horrible move by UT, I think things were on the brink of turning around with Herman.
Sarkisian may be a good coordinator, but I don’t see any proof he’s a good head coach.
Or even David McWilliams.
I like him and I think he’s an excellent offensive coordinator. There’s a lot a difference between being an offensive coordinator and a head coach.
I am surprised Texas good make such a move on an offensive coordinator. Just two years ago, he was fired by Atlanta. Having an Nick Saban on the resume has made a lot of assistant coaches a lot of money.
Again, I like Sark. I think he’s a good man and an excellent coordinator. Will he be a great head coach? That has yet to be answered but he has learned from some of the very best. I wish him well except when he’s going up against Alabama.
I don’t understand the firing of Tom Herman, considering the expensive buyout, and hiring Steve Sarkisian is a bit of a head-scratcher as well.
The only conclusion I have is that the Texas backers are desperate.
Both UTs (Tennessee and Texas) suffer from the same things, impatient fan bases that won’t allow coaches the time to build a program, and thus they can’t attract good people to coach there after a certain amount of time.
I wouldn’t say Sark is a good recruiter. He was at Alabama. Nick Saban is a great recruiter.
Sark is an excellent coordinator and may turn out to be an excellent head coach. That has yet to be determined.
Cutty Sark
Guys who coach for Saban don’t exactly have a great track record as head coaches.
Looks like he’s going to bring Muschamp back to Austin as DC.
Alabama
In September 2016, Alabama hired Sarkisian as an analyst for their football team.[30]
Following Lane Kiffin's departure to become the head coach at Florida Atlantic, Sarkisian was promoted to the Alabama offensive coordinator position on January 2, 2017.[31] He stepped into the role in the National Championship game against Clemson. The Tide would lose narrowly to the Tigers in his first and only game of the 2016 season as offensive coordinator.
Atlanta Falcons
On February 7, 2017, Sarkisian was hired as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons, taking over for the recently departed Kyle Shanahan who left to Coach the 49ers. The offense's scoring output, under his guidance, dropped from 33.8 points per game (leading the NFL in 2016) to 22.1 points per game in 2017. In 2018, the offense's scoring improved to 25.9 points per game. On December 31, 2018, he was fired as offensive coordinator.
Alabama (second stint)
In January 2019, Alabama re-hired Sarkisian as the offensive coordinator.[32] In 2020, Sarkisian served as interim head coach for Alabama's 42–13 victory over Auburn after Nick Saban had to be quarantined due to COVID-19 protocols.[33]
During his second stint at Alabama, Sarkisian coached quarterbacks Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa.[34]
It doesn’t help that many of them coach in the same conference as Saban...
Saban’s approach is, “I will teach you everything you know, I will not teach you everything I know.”
Sports announcers like to announce that none have ever beaten him either.
