I think it was a horrible move by UT, I think things were on the brink of turning around with Herman.
Sarkisian may be a good coordinator, but I don’t see any proof he’s a good head coach.
I wouldn’t say Sark is a good recruiter. He was at Alabama. Nick Saban is a great recruiter.
Sark is an excellent coordinator and may turn out to be an excellent head coach. That has yet to be determined.
Word is the pampered players at Texas didn’t like being held accountable. Texas is also losing the recruiting battles in the state to A&M, Oklamoma, and some other SEC schools.
Will be interesting to see how well Mike Leach does in recruiting and developing offensive talent in the SEC. He was great at Texas Tech and Washington State. He got Gordan Minshew into the NFL; that’s an accomplishment. Minshew was ready to sign with Alabama as a Senior transfer. Leach called him and asked if he wanted to sit on the bench at Alabama or lead the nation in passing. That sealed the deal.
I think it was a horrible move, too. In 4 years, UT will fire Sarkisian. It’s their pattern. Herman was making progress after inheriting a disaster, and is showed. They should’ve given him another year or two to get his program in fully. UT is too impatient.
There’s little doubt in my mind that Texas fans will drive Sarkisian back to the bottle. I think it’s a terrible hire.
I’d hire Herman in a heartbeat, knowing that most likely UT will be still be paying him for years.
