Interesting reprinting on page 6 of editorial in the Times of London (hard to read, though). It starts off very snide and condescending towards Americans, but ends up articulating what many thought and feared at the time about the dangers of the country collapsing. Opinions changed week to week, even day by day, back then, so they may not always be so worried about the state of our union.
