A speeding car has been filmed almost disintegrating as it hit the United States border in footage from the crash that killed the driver and a disabled vendor.

The 27-year-old male motorist from Santa Ana, California, was pronounced dead at the scene after crashing into a metal barrier as he attempted to cross into the US in a closed lane at the San Ysidro Port of Entry just after 2pm local time last Tuesday.

Damn right I found it upsetting, what a waste of a perfectly good car.

That was a great use of a pole.

Well Trump said in his speeches that the two things that always will work are “walls” and “wheels”, well it doesn’t look like the wheels worked in this case.

[The driver was a Californian. What was his problem. He should’ve gotten through easily.

I would love to know the upshot on this one.]

The metal pole wasn’t visible before he hit it. It was encased in what, before the collision, looked like hollow plastic. He probably thought the plastic-looking barrier was an oversized version of a traffic cone. Unfortunately for him, he turned out to be wrong.

He had to go to the bathroom. Like, really, really bad.

Without knowing anything except the crash, one might think he was a young Californian man either completely stoned on something, or fleeing for his life because he was involved in something unsavory.

Could be any number of things...I didn’t see a lot of detail there.

On second thought, I went back and actually watched the video...I vote for him running for his life. He didn’t want to get stuck in that scrum of cars.

Just my opinion...I think he was in trouble.

In the video, something comes flying forward. It looks to me like it is blacked out with red. I’m thinking it’s the driver’s head.

One thing about that stuff is that your brain works incredibly fast in situations like that, it’s rather amazing. Imagine a camera with a 120 frames per second, the mind is more like 1000 fps. I’ve been in many vehicle accidents, I ride motorcycles and off road vehicles as a hobby. When I hit a deer doing 55 mph I was processing images and thoughts at an incredibly fast rate and can to this day remember it all.

That driver was very cognizant of the last split second, and there was an oh shit, I’m dead moment no doubt. Then again, he was probably on drugs I’d think.

This is one of my most recent crashes. I hit a blind sand dune in my UTV doing 35mph. I run the vid in slow motion. Airborne I had so many thoughts go through my head, and how stupid I felt, since I’d crashed in the same darn sand hole 6 months earlier. I wound up with neck strain for 2 weeks and a seriously bruised thumb.

Glad you are alive.

Re running the film at slow motion speed will help to determine a starting point and impact point for the car, thus helping to let forensic experts calculate the actual speed of the car (I’d say over 45 MPH a minimum). This was not normal accident.

You do wonder what was dangling on that crossing pole after he ran it. That pole never moved........tore off everything front to back.

I was marveling at that, too. It is extremely strong. Some excellent engineering and design work.

That’ll buff right out. Good as new.

Pretty sure that car is on a used car lot for sale in National City today.

Guess he watched too many movies where those little bars just move out of the way when cars hit them. That’s one tuff metal bar across the road!
