The clock struck midnight when a speedy pooch named Bug Brush crossed the finish line to win the final race at Palm Beach Kennel Club in West Palm Beach and brought a curtain on the sport in Florida.
A little more than 25 months ago, state voters overwhelmingly approved Amendment 13, outlawing greyhound races, starting in 2021, and issuing what could amount to a national death sentence for the century-old U.S. sport.
With the state now out of the greyhound-running business, four tracks in three states — West Virginia, Arkansas and Iowa — are left still chasing rabbits.
When Amendment 13 passed in 2018, Florida had 11 of America's 17 dog tracks, which were spread out across six states. Earlier this year, tracks in Texas and Alabama went out of business.
"Florida was the mecca (of dog racing), the base, the largest state with the most tracks," Humane Society Florida Director Kate MacFall told NBC News recently, celebrating her state's role in the sport's decline. "Now this industry has withered."

Truer words were never spoken. Until this stupid “Initiative” process is eliminated, it is a responsible persons duty to vote down all the initiatives that go on the ballots, nearly all of which are put there by leftists. Altering the State Constitution of Florida is the Legislature’s duty, not the mobs. But like legislatures everywhere the members seem to be in it for themselves.

Yea the same idiots that lock their dog in a cage for 12 hours a day while at work think dog racing is cruel. We grew up with it. Race tracks in Wisconsin had picnic tables outside and playgrounds for the kids. They would parade the dogs around so kids could pet them. It was a family day out.
Use the parks to host transsexual games. That would limit the location of cootie spreading, with plenty of room for the audience.

This schmuck is part of the reason that his sport is going extinct. Like horse racing, dog racing is a sport where the patrons participate. They participate by looking at the histories of the animals' past races and their owner/trainer records and trying to predict the future. 15 minutes isn't nearly enough time to do this. But it's fun to try. Would that racing had marketing people who knew how to promote their sport. It isn't about something that happens briefly at 15 minute intervals or once a year for two minutes in May.

PB Kennel Club, mentioned in the opening line, is owned by a great American family that is full of Vets, Republicans and has contributed to our Country in ways that few have.
They ran a clean sport that is/was an example. They have diversified, added breweries and poker, but they couldn’t stop the freight train of PC. The Sport of Kings next? Probably not as there is sooooo much $$$$ in horses.
For us Thanksgiving and Christmas is turkey...Easter is ham.The only time I eat sirloin or prime rib is in a restaurant.That’s just as well...if I had it routinely I’d weigh 400 pounds and my coronary arteries will be like cement.
If liberals and PETA get they way, they won’t stop at horse racing either. The sport is booming at various levels. Handles (wagering) were set in 2020 at many jurisdictions. Purchasing at auctions were near or at record highs. Ban the sport of horse racing and the breeding of thoroughbreds becomes non existent and the breed eventually obsolete. Liberals refuse to acknowledge the care and attention the animals received from countless hours of care from maintenance personnel. Like anything else, the rare bad in society gets elevated and the good pushed to the deep side.
