--snip--

Although we really can’t expect things to go back to normal at the stroke of midnight, we nevertheless look towards 2021 with a sense of renewed hope. In Hong Kong, and in much of the English-speaking world, we say goodbye to the old year by singing a traditional folk song set to the words of a Scots poem. “Auld Lang Syne,” best translated as “long, long ago,” or “days gone by” is a crowd favorite, although this year it better be a virtual crowd. The song has attracted a huge number of beautiful interpretations and arrangements from musical stars from times near and far. As we say good riddance to 2020 and hello to 2021, I have selected some of the best versions of “Auld Lang Syne,” starting with a beautifully rendered performance by the “Celtic Woman.”

Does anyone truly believe we’re going to be better off in 2021 (and beyond), especially if we have a President Biden and a 50/50 Senate effectively controlled by VP Harris?

You ain’t seen NOTHING yet. 2021 is gonna be even worse.

Sorry, but it’s the truth.

I hope, in a few years, we won’t be missing 2020. I’m extremely cynical right now.

My father-in-law came back from WW2 with a little, beautifully hard-bound Army-Navy Hymnal, that he kept in his rucksack, with this arrangement in it, my favorite of many I have in old parlor music books. I play it nearly every day, I recorded it, warts and all, for your article.

I’m afraid we might be leaving the year of the virus and entering the year of the RATS.

Remains to be seen which is worse.

"Goodbye, Jimmy, Goodbye" - Ruby Murray

Although Ruby's version is my favorite, this version was the bestseller on this side of the Atlantic.
