I don’t know when it happened, but at some point we—as a society—decided that it was indecent to consume a carbohydrate on or in another carbohydrate. There are some exceptions, such as Taco Bell’s now retired spicy potato soft taco and the UK’s chip butty, but in most circles, carb-on-carb is a fairly rare configuration.
Potatoes are the easiest to get away with. Both the taco and butty (which is British for “odd little sandwich”) I mention above use potato as the “filling carb,” and a wheat-based carb as the delivery system. Getting two wheat-based carbs involved, on the other hand, feels awkward—but that’s exactly what reader Kurt suggested I do.

I know people that dont like chicken and dumplings, whats up with that??!!
Mashed potato sandwiches? Why do that???
My wife loves chowder and most sea foods and french bread.
One of her favorites when we can get to the coast is:
Fresh prepared chowder poured into a French bread bowl.
Sounds like someone’s old immigrant family, Depression-era recipe from the tenements of some city.
The NBA player Terry Rozier grew up poor and famously shared his favorite sandwich recipe: white bread, spaghetti pasta, table sugar and ranch salad dressing.
I just don’t get that.
Does she consume the soup and then tear apart the soggy bread to eat? Seems like aprecarious endeavor to start eating the bread before the soup is gone.
Why not just a little bread on the side instead?
I put potato chips in my sandwiches to give them more pep.
I love cold chili bean sandwiches.
Count me in that group. Boiled chicken and lumps of flour in a thin broth-like liquid just doesn’t do a thing for me.

Ramen grilled cheese w/ bacon.......no bread.
No seaweed? no fish?!!
There is a place here that is known for chicken. One of the menu items is chicken and noodles, which are served over a bed of mashed potatoes. Here it is from the menu:
“Egg noodles with chunks of chicken and vegetables in a thick broth over mashed potatoes, with one side.”

Mash potato is the “universal vegetable”. It really goes with anything. Fish, chicken, pork, beef. Other vegetables.
Poor man’s pierogi.
Spaghetti tacos are/were a thing....
Yep.
I’ve had that several places in the Midwest and it’s awesome.
Sure do, when he is truly a deep thinker! 8-)
Be yourself. Always be yourself. If people can’t penetrate unimportant surface issues they’re never going to appreciate your fundamental qualities anyway.
(had to look that one up for accuracy)
