Could that be a disinformation campaign spread by KFC corporate when he was going around complaining about what they had done to his product/recipes and said that their mashed potatoes taste like wallpaper paste?
I dont know when that was. But these stories date back to the 1960s when he travelled from place to place for publicity for his restaurants and he hired various female employees to pose for advertisements and such. Some of those ladies are the ones who called him “an old letch”
