It would not harm the food, but would probably only kill viruses on the surface, exposed to the light. If some got mixed into the mashed potatoes for example, the food itself might shield some of the virus from exposure.

Thanks, I’m just curious about say buying groceries, then letting them sit under a light for a minute or so to kill any surface virus like on boxes, tomatoes, cantaloupe, cucumbers or whatever- instead of washing them all individually, making boxes soggy, some packages are semi permeable, so the contents woudl get soggy- but a light would prevent all that
