Trump mentioned this and the fraudster covid pimps jumped all over him.
The old folks homes need this type of cleaning....which I think some do.
this isn’t really a discovery.
Maybe they test which wavelength and how long, but they’ve known for long time that UV kills viruses, uvc
So get outside. Get some sunshine.
These lockdowns are killing people by the millions.
Fine.
NOW can we all get back to living our lives?
Going back to the 70s? Black lights and UV paint... ???
This isn’t new. UV light ahs been used for decades.
Interesting fixation on COVID-19. Does UV light kill other seasonal viruses as well?
When I was a kid in the 50’s a Merit Gas Station on the Berlin Turnpike(newington Ct) had a pay toilet (remember those) and the toilet seat flipped up ito a holder frame type thing that had a UV bulb in it.
Looked futuristic to a kid back then
Publix ustah have UV fixtures them behind the Deli Counter, may still have them haven’t paid attention.
The shorter UV wavelengths that are so effective as disinfectants (UVC), are also the worst for human tissues, like the eyes and skin.
This is useful for disinfecting things and surfaces, but not safe for use when people are exposed to it.
The shorter the UV wavelength, the worse it is (for both people and viruses).
Too bad that we don’t have some source in the sky that emits UV rays huh?
For several decades, UV disinfection modules have been packaged for consumer use both freestanding for a room and a black box into central HVAC systems. UV light at an intensity sufficient for disinfection is hazardous so the devices have a cutoff switch to cut power if the device is opened. The consumer devices that use naked UV light are very low output intensity although it's dumb to look directly at them for any length of time.
One trick used with high end LEDs that have a narrow wavelength is to use lenses to focus the light to a narrow beam - Think about a laser pointer as an example. Another example used in specialized industrial and laboratory applications is to focus the LED output to a focal point a a fraction of a micron in diameter. This means that at that tiny focal point, the energy intensity is greater than 1 million watts per centimeter, all from a single common LED emitter.
RE: UV LEDs
Question: What are the long term effects of UV LEDs exposure on your skin?
the tough part is acquiring UV laser diodes. I worked with one for a chemistry conversion process last year. I had to beg the company that makes them to loan me a diode (the size of a cheap laser pointer you can get at Dollar Tree) because the cost is $4000 - $7000 depending on wavelength and power.
Very few companies produce them. I am sure that will change now.
Thought we knew this back in Feb.
UVC has long been known to kill viruses.
UVC wands and such have been for sale here in the USA since the outbreak started.
