The many things mentioned in this thread are definitely factors but they were and are only tools put in place by the Chinese.
If you want to understand how this happened. ask your self how Fang, the Chinese spy, knew Eric Swalwell who at the time they first met was a nobody in politics, would become a very important member of congress. So important that he would be privy to top secret information.
It could have only happened by a plan so complex and so unimaginable that no one would expect it.
That plan was simple. Send Fang to the US to find a young man with the desire to be in politics, court him, convince him he can make it and then rig the election so he wins an important office.
Then get some powerful politician who has already been corrupted by the Chinese government to use his/her influence to get him installed in a sensitive position.
Who could possibly have the money, power, patience and the people in place to do such a thing?

The difference is the amount of Chinese money, the access our elite has willingly given them, and the ability to transmit digital data easily around the world.
Another important difference: our elite no longer have allegiance to the USA.
