It’s like the Hunter’s Sandwich I saw in Field & Stream a few years back. Some deer hunters like to go out the day after Thanksgiving to try to fill their tag, and they can get hungry up in that tree stand. The sandwich was basically leftovers: two thick, chewy slices of bread, turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, slathered in mayo and wrapped in paper. The pic was mouth-watering and the ingredients all worked well together, but half of it would be down your camo by the time you were done, if you didn’t take precautions.
On the east coast there’s a gas station chain called WAWA. A lot of gas stations here have full deli’s inside their stores. Some of the food is memorably good. For instance, a Maryland based chain, Royal Farms makes about the best fried chicken around.
Anyway, around Thanksgiving every year, WAWA features The Gobbler. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and turkey gravy in a hard crust bun.
Talk about an awesome sandwich. Note: Not for eating while driving.
