It’s hard to decide whether to laugh or cry at the education chaos in Liberal Land.
It’s hard to decide whether to laugh or cry at the education chaos in Liberal Land. There’s Dalton, the swank private school on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, whose staff has just issued a 24-point anti-racist manifesto demanding, amongst other things, twelve diversity officers, thusly
Expand the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to include at least 12 full-time positions: one Director, one Office Assistant, three full-time staff members per division, and one full-time staff member for PE/Athletics.
Back when I went to a swank private school in England in the 1960s, I’d say the total administrative staff, from headmaster and bursar down to office staff, was no more than five.
Then there’s the school district in swank Brookline, Massachusetts, a town full to the brim with highly-credentialed, well-paid experts and NPR honchos like Meghna Chakrabarti who all seem to have the credentials to boss around the school district and its teachers’ union. Because credentials.
(I wonder if Chakrabarti is a relative of Sandy O’s former eminence-grise, Saikat Chakrabarti? Maybe not: Chakraborty means “ruler of the country,” peasants.)
I have an idea. Maybe this system of politics-and-protest is a good way to cause chaos in our children’s education.
Rather like billionaire-inspired nationwide reform, like No Child Left Behind and Common Core.
Right in line with Harvard president James B. Conant’s Fifties vision of mega high schools.

I watched the 1975 Vietnamese evacuation up close while assigned to Hickam AFB, Hawaii. They arrived with either a suitcase or a sack. The first generation got on their feet. The second generation is mainstream American. There were no programs or sympathy for them. They just took care of business. I would ask this Dalton diversity crowd why they think the Vietnamese succeeded. I would expect them to change the subject.
I worked with a man who escaped from Vietnam as a teenager on a boat. We spoke at length about what the communists did there.
“We spoke at length about what the communists did there.”
Healthcare and education for all...what could be so bad about communism? LOL.
I know a family, Khang, who live in Massachusetts. The parents arrived as refugees from Cambodia, escaping through Thailand. The father worked as an auto mechanic to get on their feet, eventually owning a shop. Their daughter, Megan, is now a professional golfer on the LPGA, and has earned about $2.5M golfing. She will represent the USA next summer in the Solheim Cup against Europe. Her face will be painted with the American flag. She is a fierce Patriot and Bruins fan.
The BEST PART of this story are the parents who, for the first time in their lives, are getting a taste of just who is ‘educating’ their kids. While I know this is NYC (i.e., full of Democrats), I suspect most of these super-rich parents are the kind of people who watch NBC News every night (hence hate Trump and Republicans), but otherwise live VERY CONSERVATIVE lifestyles. Sure, once in a while one of their hick-relatives from Texas would start ranting about the Left, but that was only because he listed to Rush Limbat, and therefore was brainwashed. After all, there is NO WAY the Dalton School, at $54k per year, per child, would ever hire such left-wing radicals, who Limbat claimed controlled our schools, if they even existed at all.
...or would they?
