In 1923, Who Was:

1. President of the largest steel company? 2. President of the largest gas company? 3. President of the New York stock Exchange? 4. Greatest wheat speculator? 5. President of the Bank of International Settlement? 6. Great Bear of Wall Street?

These men were considered some of the world's most successful of their day?

Now, 90 years later, the history books ask us if we know what ultimately became of them?

The Answers:

1. The president of the largest steel company. Charles Schwab, died a pauper.

2. The president of the largest gas company, Edward Hopson, went insane.

3. The president of the NYSE, Richard Whitney, was released from prison to die at home.

4. The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur Cooger, died abroad, penniless.

5. The president of the Bank of International Settlement, shot himself.

6 The Great Bear of Wall Street, Cosabee Livermore, also committed suicide

However, in that same year, 1923, the PGA Champion and the winner of the most important golf tournament, the US Open, was Gene Sarazen.

What became of him?

He played golf until he was 92, died in 1999 at the age of 95. He was financially secure at the time of his death.

The Moral:

F**k work. Play golf.

I watched 5 seconds before turning the channel.

Those “shows” are so boring to me - like bleaching out the competitive factor of “real” golf tourneys.

I read a biography of the Post family years ago. Pretty interesting what it took to get America to want to eat “cereal”. ;)

I’ve been in the oil business since the late 70’s and was going to retire if Hillary was elected, thank GOD that didn’t happen. With it looking like Bidens going to be our next president I see retirement soon. When I retire I plan on taking my love for the game of Poker on the road and play a 4 state circuit. I might throw in a couple more as I go, Arizona and Colorado have some good games but Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana will be the main games. My wife and I both like casinos, she’s a damn good Blackjack player and I seem to do well on the felt. I’ve built up a pretty good bankroll over the years.

I set about dusting off my longbow skills. A shattered wrist keeps me from swinging a club.

Been shooting a bow for 63 years even made a few back in the 80’s. 5 years ago I got rid of all my compound bows and went back to the old stick and a string, simple and relaxing. I’ve taken 5 feral hogs in the last month with my old Martin Vision 55 lb.

#6 was JESSE Livermore.

His ghostwritten autobiography, “Reminiscences of a Stock Operator” is very good. An insightful look into the realities of finance and investing...truly a case of “some things never change”.
