What is so screwed up with the Maxwell Lord character is that they shoe horn the character to fit their version of Trump, when the character was invented decades ago before Trump was that large of a national character.

If they were smart, they could have used a character that was part of the New Gods/Darkseid characters - a manipulator who was a servent of Darkseid and was good at manipulation and propaganda. They could have tied him in to the Justice League movie and the planned invasion by Darkseid on Earth. But no - they just cannot help themselves.
