The San Francisco Unified School District on Friday released an update on its timeline for reopening schools.

SFUSD will not begin its phased approach and reopen the first 12 schools to in-person instruction on Jan. 25 as originally planned.

However, progress has been made to ensure that when students to return to campuses, they do safely. Some progress includes:

Every classroom in the first school buildings proposed to reopen has been assessed for ventilation, physical distancing, etc. A letter of interest to reopen schools has been submitted to the SF Department of Public Health Families in Phase 2A have been surveyed to identify those who wish to return to in-person Staff COVID-19 testing has begun SFUSD has a 3-month supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) for each school site.

“I am disappointed that we cannot offer a guaranteed date for when we can resume in-person learning for our youngest and most vulnerable students,” Dr. Vincent Matthews, Superintendent of Schools, said. “This pandemic has required us to live with a great deal of uncertainty and it’s simply not over yet.”

Honestly, we need a lot less teachers if the classroom is now the entire country.

There is going to a run on pitchforks, tar, feathers and rope in Cali in the not too distant future.

Stock up while you still can

And yet we are told that school age children are among the least likely of any of us to get the virus. We have lost any sense of proportionality of the risks here. We have lost any semblance of balance of risks and other factors. But not just in SF schools, but most of the country has gone off the deep end here.

That’s going to be a lot of time with the kids sitting around doing very little. Their academic levels will crater.
Some are in high school, and will be even less ready for college than they maybe have been anyway.

In todays world, that caters to what is childish, I will bet that means entrance exams will be canceled, postponed or averaged way, way down. Look for a lot of C- and D+ gpa’s.

Just keep paying your property taxes.

Or else.

Keep in mind that the Communist Chinese Virus has little affect on children.

Well another thing we know for sure, they won’t be frequenting the “Asian-owned” businesses because they are racists or is it because after the liquor budget there isn’t any extra money for wasteful purchases.

Unintended consequences: more private and home schooling.

Great opportunity for churches to step in and start educating the local kids but most of them are terrified of functioning at all right now.

San Diego's school district just issued a proclamation that grades won't be based on mastery and turning in homework or even attending because ... wait for it ... racist.

I’m not arguing with your point, but as a retired public school teacher, I can assure you that any chance of a kid getting seriously ill or God forbid, dying of Wuhan during this pandemic scares the crap out of school administrators.

The semi-rural school I taught at called off classes for jr high students when two teachers came down with the ‘Rona. Yes, school administrators seem to be born with the ‘better safe than sorry’ gene but try to imagine the public outcry if they get this wrong.

The torches, pitchforks, tar & feathers are much more likely to come out for a couple of dead kids than hundreds of closed schools.
