This is exceedingly possible, because Pence does not appear to be an evil person, but he’s lived in and not only succeeded, but excelled in the swamp for a long time.
Pete - I agree with you that the Sec Def is likely referring to political skills, not military skills.
Despite my doubts about Pence, Trump DID pick him for his VP and Trump is not someone who gets fooled, and I obviously would not even try to second guess Trump.
But we’re likely coming up on a “lives, fortunes and sacred honor” scenario where everyone involved will be tested beyond their wildest imaginations. Will they, including Pence, have the courage to do what needs to be done to save the Republic?

For what it’s worth, I have never been suspicious of Pence.
But I find he does have this really annoying cadence to his manner of speaking and I just cannot stand to listen to the man.
For that reason alone, I hope he decides to retire from public life when he leaves the vice presidency.
