Black couple’s cars burned, home spray-painted after displaying BLM sign

A Texas family woke up last Wednesday to find their two cars lit on fire, and “Trump 20” spray-painted on their home after putting a “Black Lives Matter” sign on their yard.

Jayla Gipson and Charles Crawford, who are black, told WFFA they suspect the sign may have triggered vandals to attack their home in Little Elm.

“That sign was in my yard for less than two weeks and then all of a sudden we get a tragedy like this,” Gipson said.

“I would have preferred they just take the sign. But to set the house on fire? That’s going way too far.”

Gipson’s 21-year-old son first made the discovery when he smelled smoke during a midnight trip to the bathroom on Dec. 9, NBC News reported.

The couple then rushed to find their Nissan Optima and Kia Forte torched in their driveway.

They also noticed “Trump 20” spray-painted on their garage door, and the “Black Lives Matter” sign on their yard defaced with the same red spray paint used on her home.

“It’s definitely a hate crime,” Gipson told NBC News.
