I’m not really up to speed on these battery cars - how far can one go in the summer heat with the A/C going? Or in cold weather with the heater on full blast?

Exactly. Up north will be bad.

Heat is free in an IC car - comes right off the engine. As a matter of fact, under certain conditions, running the heater is good for the car.

For an E car, you gotta heat up inefficient resistance strips, like a space heater - BIG drain.

Not more than 200 miles. Then it takes 8 hours to charge

That’s a problem for sure. Especially the winter part, because batteries struggle in the cold to begin with and you are using battery capacity instead of waste heat to warm/defrost. E-cars are well suited to places like NorCal where the climate is temperate most of the year.
