The Killers is a 1946 American film noir directed by Robert Siodmak, and starring Burt Lancaster (in his film debut), Ava Gardner, Edmond O'Brien, and Sam Levene. Based in part on the 1927 short story of the same name by Ernest Hemingway, it focuses on a detective's investigation into the execution-style killing of a former boxing champion who appears to have been unresistant to his own murder.

“The Young Savages” was just on TCM. He’s a great actor-was. Dead serious all the time.

I like the one where he works in a railway yard and the Nazis are trying to haul away paintings by French artists.

(The above is not a statement of fact. It is either opinion, or satire. Or both.)

A good movie. It’s the one that made Ava Gardner a big star. The best scene in the movie, though, was the final one!

As Artie Shaw said:
"You go to a party. Ava Gardner's there. She likes you. You're gonna say no?"

Another film noir that was surprisingly good is Kiss Me Deadly--Mickey Spillane--the 1955 version, with Ralph Meeker as Mike Hammer.

Yes, he was a great actor. My favorite Lancaster movie is Sorry, Wrong Number.

Just watched it based on your post. Great old movie! Anything with Hurricane Ava is worth watching. What a knock out. Now I want to watch Mogambo. Ava and Grace, it doesn’t get any better!
