I don’t give a crap what Mr. Imagine had to say or think about anything. Anyone that cares about this is fooling themselves.
Lennon was a supporter of the radical left during the early 1970s, funding the Yippies and White Panthers. He did rethink some things after struggling to kick his drug addiction, but I don’t think he ever became a “closet conservative”. Jimmy Carter was extremely unpopular even among Democrats by the end of his term due to inflation.
Lennon repudiated his criticism of Maoism after the left gave him flack about “Revolution”, and he changed the lyrics to say “count me out/in” instead of “count me out”, which people like Charles Manson noticed. He wrote “Power to the People” to apologize for repudiating the revolution. However, he again backtracked on this in his final interview.
So his repudiations “fuckin hell” don’t mean anything. Reason will never grace his genius. Beyond repair.
Whoa!
Yes, if you listen or read his final interviews during the period he was recording Double Fantasy he was much more down to earth and no longer a radical.
He had also sent a check for a fundraiser to buy bulletproof vests for the NYC Police Dept during the 5 years he was out of sight from the public.
He even talked about how he was now into prayer. Something about having Sean as a child and that affecting his sense of what was important.
I am the Walrus.. Kookooka chuub :)
