My dad was an airplane pilot for Braniff back in the day and he said that Charley Pride was on one of his flights. He went back and talked to him and said he was a righteous dude. RIP.

He was better than 99.999% of the phony country singers of today...
An awesome musician... An awesome man...
RIP...

Where Will I Put Her Memory
One of his best hits.
Connie B Gay ran a Country and Western radio station, WGAY in the Washington DC area. Spent a good chunk of his life looking for a black female artist to sing country music. Never found one.

R.I.P. You can add .001 Today’s CW is trash. Rosanne Cash is considered Americana for the Grammys.

I read a book some years ago that contained a firsthand story about Charley Pride being very kind to a then-fading Webb Pierce. At the time, I did not really know much about Charley, but I thought to myself, "Wow! That was a classy thing to do." Subsequently, I learned that it was characteristic of the man.
RIP, Mr. Pride.

I saw him back in the 80s in England when he was on the USO circuit. Great show.

God seems to be intent on calling home an exceptional number of his best, this year.
( I guess this means I’m “safe” for now. /s )
I’m not a big Country Music fan, but, some people just stand out: It was quite worthwhile, spending a couple hours revisiting this Man’s life and legacy. I think one could define the word “dignity” by saying “Charlie Pride”... Aside from all the talent, what a loss!
Prayers for Mr. Pride’s family, friends, and even his fans. May he rest in peace.
