Pareidolia (/pɛraɪˈdoʊliə/, /pɛriː-/) is the tendency for incorrect perception of a stimulus as an object, pattern or meaning known to the observer, such as seeing shapes in clouds, seeing faces in inanimate objects or abstract patterns, or hearing hidden messages in music.
(I disagree with this! Its not “Incorrect” for one to attempt to assign meaning and structure in the world around you. As long as you understand that the image of the cloud is not a cloud, but water lines on a basement wall you should be free to allow it to provoke your imagination.)
