Welcome to Free Republic.
The very, singular question at stake here is: Are we a Constitutional Republic or are we not?
If we are, we need to adhere to the Constitution. If not, the Constitution is just a piece of yellowed parchment, and that is all.
Period.
And that is why this is so important. A lot of people don’t know it, but the Soviet Union had a wonderful constitution, that was by law, to be always available to any citizen, even prisoners in the Gulag, upon demand.
Alexandr Solzhenitsyn described it as a nearly perfect document in “The Gulag Archipelago”.
And so it was. But the Soviet Constitution was only as good as the people who interpreted it and enforced it. Instead of the words of their constitution driving the interpretation and enforcement, they simply altered the interpretation to suit their needs and enforced it in that fashion.
We have been doing that same thing in many ways, but this very election is going to cause some people to attempt to do that very same thing with a fundamental support pillar of our Republic.
Well written! Welcome to FreeRepublic.
So, what’s the plan?
What are you doing to defend the Constitution?
